Our Core Team

Gooi Poh Hong is LHoL’s Programme Director with over 30 years of English teaching and learning development experience. Her work experience ranges from being a classroom teacher in secondary schools in Malaysia, to being the head of various proficiency English programmes in a leading university in Malaysia. Prior to her appointment with LHoL, she was teaching proficiency English courses in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) catering to undergraduates, postgraduates as well as corporate learners. She has also taught intensive English courses to local and foreign students with very little background and exposure to the English language. Poh Hong has also been actively involved in developing teaching materials for a variety of proficiency English courses offered in the university. She is most enthusiastic about classroom pedagogy and has written story books and workbooks for pre-schoolers as well as activity books for primary school children.

Tong Ngan is our Chief Operating Officer and is passionate about teaching and mentoring others to transform themselves, their families and their community and organization. As the Training Secretary for IFES East Asia, he travelled extensively in East Asia to build up the national staff teams. As the CEO of World Vision Malaysia for 11 years, he brought together a staff team of over 100 persons to contribute to developing children and their communities all over the world, especially in the area of education.

Tong Ngan has a multi-disciplinary background, holding Master degrees in Computer Engineering and Arts (Community Development). He is fluent in English, Japanese, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin and other Chinese dialects.

Goh Kek Seng is our Senior Programme Advisor for LHoL who assists our corporate clients in defining their Business English learning requirements. Kek Seng also regularly reviews and enhances LHoL’s Learning Quality Framework and conducts selected corporate training programmes for our clients.

Prior to this, Kek Seng held senior positions in several higher education institutions, including the role of a CEO with an accumulated wealth of 30 years’ experience where he contributed extensively to the training and development of professional trainers, corporate managers and executives in Malaysia.  His regional contributions included leadership roles in the World Bank Loans for human resource development in Malaysia and the UNESCO programs for university academics in the Asia‐Pacific. He has published 8 textbooks and presented more than 300 articles and training programmes in both the English Language and Bahasa Malaysia in local and international conferences.  Kek Seng is a certified HRDF trainer, public speaker, writer, and academic consultant.   He holds a first-class B.A. (Hons) from USM, Penang and an M.S. (Education Management) from University of Rochester, NY.  He also did postgraduate research in computers-in-(English) education, advanced consultancy skills and project management in the U.K.

Our Key Instructors

Florence is our Senior Language Practitioner and has been teaching English for the past 36 years. She was a senior English language staff member at the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation, USM and has retired from government service. She has vast experience in all areas of English language teaching and has taught a wide variety of courses like General English, Scientific and Medical English, Business writing, Phonetics and phonology, and Spoken English. She has been a course leader for several courses and has written course materials, tests and examination papers. She was also one of the pioneering staff members who was involved in the setting up of the BA English for Professionals course, writing outlines and teaching four courses viz The Study of Grammar, Writing for Professional Communication, Phonetics and Lexis and English for law over a period of six years.

She has offered in-service courses on a regular basis to participants from Malaysia, other countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam and those from non-English speaking countries like Sweden, Finland and Germany. Florence has also taught Intensive English classes for students from the Middle East, China, Korea, Indonesia and Thailand.

Florence has an MA in English Literature from Leeds University, an advanced Diploma in Education in Educational Psychology and Education in Developing Countries from the University of London, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education TESL from the University of Malaya and a BA in English Literature from the University of Malaya

Susanne Buetikofer is one of our instructors.
She has over a decade of experience in the travel and hospitality industry and is recognised for her sophistication and savoir-faire. Susanne is also an extremely passionate and enthusiastic instructor who has worked with frontline and customer service teams during her tenure in a national full service carrier for Switzerland and a luxury brand hotel in New York City, United States. In Swissair, she spent many years in Customer Service where she worked on developing good communication and presentation skills with her teams. In the Swissôtel The Drake she worked as a Front Office Manager, and constantly promoted her role to train and build confidence in her team in reinforcing work ethics and value systems that prioritised quality customer service. In the latter part of her career, after having managed a Swiss Hotel in Koh Samui, Thailand she then returned to Switzerland and undertook further training to become a Human Resources Specialist.
Susanne worked for several years for the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs and conducted many recruitment and human resources related workshops during this time. Susanne graduated with Honours from the Hotel Management School of Geneva, Switzerland. She is currently living with her family in Taiwan and is completing her Master Certificate in Strategic Human Resources Management at the Michigan State University, United States. Susanne is well travelled and is fluent in English, French and German.

Intan Darlina Muhammad is one of LHoL’s Lead Instructors who is passionate about teaching and working with people. Darlina graduated with Honours from the University of Kent, Canterbury, England with a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies. She achieved the inaugural prestigious award of Anugerah Dekan Matrikulasi ESL from Universiti Malaya back in 2000 and 2001. Darlina is not new to the community as you may remember her delivering the English News Bulletins for Traxx.fm as well as news and traffic updates for Time Highway Radio. In her free time, Darlina masters corporate ceremonies and state functions as well as delivers the Parliament Report for Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat. Darlina is currently an Enterprise Risk Management Practitioner and an Associate Trainer for Emergency Response/ Business Continuity in the airline industry.

Prema Ong is a highly skilled trainer who comes with extensive experience in teaching English to working adults in a wide range of industries. With more than two(2) decades of linguistic participation and active teaching, she is able to relate real experiences in the business world that quickly allows common mistakes to be addressed effectively. This is especially helpful for students who need to re-learn basic grammatical structures and improve on business language fluency.

Her foray into the fields of public relations, media and advertising in the 1990s saw her branch out into event management, copywriting, and the production of newsletters, annual reports, corporate brochures and press liaison. She worked with clients such as Arthur Andersen, AIC Corporation, EONCMG Life Assurance Bhd., Marconi UK & Malaysia, Mastercard Malaysia and Merck, Sharp & Dohme (I.A.) Corp, among others. Prema started to focus on teaching and training and the Corporate English Programmes she has delivered includes Business Writing, Report Writing, and Grammar for Workplace Communication, Telephone English, Oral Presentation Skills, Spoken English and Persuasive Writing.

Prema holds a Master of Education in TESL (Teaching of English as a Second Language) and hails from Universiti Malaya (UM).
