On the 28th of December 2014, LHoL with Penang Science Cluster launched a community service event showcasing the learning of English and science at the Taman Tun Sardon community hall for the residents in the area.
For LHoL, the objective of the event was to create awareness as well as to encourage, particularly, primary school children to join the English enrichment programme in 2015 which will be held weekly at the newly set up Karpal Singh Learning Centre in Gelugor. This enrichment programme adopts a creative and fun approach to learning, designed to help the children improve their command of English.
LHoL set up 7 stations of fun language games and a reading corner with books available for the children to browse and read. Each child who completed the games was rewarded with a goodie bag. Though rather shy and apprehensive initially, the children warmed up with each game and had an exciting time. A total of 51 children took part in the activities. The Penang Science Cluster section showcased their Lego robotics and other science ‘toys’ to inspire curiosity and interest in the field of science and mathematics.
